Sun, Style & Ceramics: A Design Collaboration Inspired by the Coast - Urban nest

Janaika Elders |

At urban nest, we believe that great design is born from collaboration. Over the years, we’ve made it our mission to not only bring beautiful and thoughtful homeware to the region but also to build a creative community around it. Our showroom isn’t just a retail space; it’s a place to exchange ideas, inspire one another, and push creative boundaries. We love working closely with interior designers to co-create unique experiences and give them a platform to express their vision using our collections.

This spirit of collaboration came to life again this April, when we received the latest HKLIVING collection. The new range is inspired by the sun-soaked Mediterranean coast, where natural beauty meets thoughtful design. At the heart of this collection is Hotel Satuna, a fictional retreat nestled along the rugged Spanish coastline. It embodies the essence of relaxation with: fresh experiences, intriguing textures, and a lifestyle that values simplicity and connection. With soft, retro touches and earthy tones, it invites us all to slow down and enjoy the moment.

To celebrate its arrival, we invited two talented designers, Anna Bier (founder of AB Designs) and Elena Danici (founder Deko 354) to style a dedicated corner of our showroom. Their body of work stood out to us for its originality and curated approach, and we had already worked together on handpicking pieces from the new collection. Known for their renovation and design projects, they’ve been featured in publications such as Marie Claire Maison Arabia and Inside Out Arabia and bring a distinctive eye for mixing retro-modern design with soul.

Here’s what they had to say about the creative process:

Q&A with Anna Bier & Elena Danici

1. What inspired your overall design concept for this project, and how did urban nest’s & Mosaico's tiles collection influence your creative vision?
The inspiration came from the change of season and the arrival of the latest Spring collections at urban nest. The blend of retro and modern is in our system, it’s the style we live and work with. We chose timeless pieces of furniture and decor, carefully selected. Something old, something new; it always turns into something good and unique.

Mosaico's tiles are a constant inspiration. Their unique concept of adapting tiles to your own interior, through color, pattern, and feel, elevates any surface. We always work with textures and layers of color, so being able to create our own tile patterns and choose colors takes our work to the next level.

2. Can you share why you chose specific items from our collection for this styling? Were there any standout pieces that particularly resonated with you?
We loved the warmth and playfulness in the new HKLIVING collection. The combination of natural materials like rattan, clay, and wood, alongside trendy chrome finishes, felt fresh yet timeless. The statement vases and retro-inspired ceramics really stood out to us as they bring character to any space without overwhelming it.

3. Do you have any styling tips or advice for our customers on how to best incorporate pieces from our newest collection into their own spaces?
Start with a timeless base. Invest in a key furniture piece that reflects your personality like a beautiful coffee table or a sculptural chair. Then, update your look each season by changing out smaller decor items such as vases, trays, art prints, or even textiles. This gives your space a new energy without having to completely overhaul your interiors.

4. How do you stay updated with interior design trends, and how do you decide which trends to incorporate into your projects?
As interior designers, we never follow trends blindly. We look at what’s happening globally, of course, but we always come back to the essence of the space and the people who live in it. It’s more about creating something meaningful and lasting. Trends can be used in moderation, especially in decor or paint. However, the bones of a space should be timeless.

5. What’s one mistake people often make when styling their homes, and how can they avoid it?
People often try to copy a look they’ve seen online without considering how it fits into their own space or lifestyle. The result can feel disconnected or cluttered. Our advice is to take inspiration but make it personal. Choose pieces that you connect with, and don’t be afraid to mix styles or materials, your home should tell your story.
