Urban nest Turns 8! 🎂
Today we celebrate urban nest’s 8th birthday, a milestone that fills us with gratitude, pride, and excitement for what’s still to come.
How It All Began
Urban nest started with a very personal journey. Back in 2017, when founder Janaika Elders was on maternity leave and decorating her home, she felt something was missing in Dubai’s interior scene. She searched for items that were unique, colourful, and full of character, pieces that told a story and were made with care. But most of what she found in stores was the same, mass-produced, and lacking that special touch.
On her travels back home to the Netherlands, Janaika discovered a world of variety, well-designed, high-quality brands like HKLIVING, known for their creative edge and craftsmanship. That sparked an idea: why not bring these inspiring, ethically made brands to Dubai, first for her own home, and then for others who shared her vision?
That was the beginning of urban nest; a destination for unique home accessories in Dubai, where every item is curated for quality, originality, and design.
The name itself tells our story:
- Urban represents city life - cosmopolitan, modern, and industrial, just like Dubai.
- Nest symbolizes warmth, authenticity, and sustainability a place where we feel safe and connected. Each “nest” is unique, just like the handcrafted pieces we curate and makes each home special.
Fun fact: our very first logo even featured a hand-drawn nest, a nod to our roots and the values that still guide us today.
From those humble beginnings, urban nest has grown into a space where design, sustainability, and storytelling come together.
Highlights from This Year
Looking back on the past year, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken to grow, evolve, and stay true to our mission:
A Growing Team
We welcomed two wonderful new team members: Arun, our trusted driver who ensures every order is delivered with care, and Vivienne, our interior stylist whose creative eye helps clients bring their spaces to life.
Collaborations & New Collections
This year, we collaborated with international audio technology company Sonos, re-launched our wallpaper collection with Creative Lab Amsterdam, and introduced Catchii a playful and colorful new brand that fits perfectly into our world of curated interiors.
Catchii wallpapers are all hand-drawn by Dutch artist Femke Zwaan, and range from whimsical designs featuring birds, animals, flowers, leaves, and jungle motifs, to more graphic patterns with shapes and stripes. Each piece is full of character, making it a perfect statement for any wall. You can explore the full collection in our sample books in the showroom, and we’ve even styled a few walls in our showroom with these gorgeous designs to help inspire your own spaces.

Creative Workshops
We also launched our very own urban nest workshop series, giving our community the chance to connect, learn, and create together. These events have been some of the most rewarding moments of our year. We are planning to host many more workshops, so do watch our “workshops” section on the website.
