Fresh year, fresh nest - Urban Nest

January is already two weeks old, time to leave 2018 behind and face 2019 full with new energy! Ever wondered how to get that same positive spirit you might have into your home and sustain it for a bit? Find some handy tips below to create your healthy and fresh nest.

Splash some color

An easy adjustment in your home is to add some color that fit into the same scheme: it gives rest to go for a color scheme and did you know that colors also have its effect on your mood? Blue and green give calmness, while red and orange for instance provide you with happy and energetic vibes.
Pantones color of the year for 2019 is ‘Living Coral’ and really adds to that happiness and energy. Described by Pantone as “an animated, life-affirming shade of orange, with golden undertones.” And “a color of carefree happiness that affirms life through a dual role of energizing and nourishing”.  We usually see a lot of this Pantones color of the year popping up in design and especially home accessories soon, so stay tuned and find your own bits of Living Coral for your home!

HK Living collection

Of course we can provide you with colorful additions: what to think of our new Peruvian collection, the color scheme of HK Living’s collection (that has coral accents and cushions!) or our new collection of colorful wallpaper from Creative Lab Amsterdam?

Get rid of stuff

Maybe you’re not a reader yourself while friends were continuously asking if certain stuff in your home was ‘sparking joy’ for you. Yes, from now the world of Marie Kondo’s Tidying Up is even more accessible because Netflix created a whole season of inspiring home make-overs. And yes, after watching you won’t binch for another hour but will start getting rid of stuff. Success guaranteed!

Need some help with getting your stuff out of sight? Use HK Living's Baskets: Iringa black (1) or Iringa terracotta (set of 3).

Add some greenery

Adding plants is a must for every house. It not only looks good, but is really a healthy addition to your living environment. Certain plants have the ability of cleaning the air and in that way keeping YOU healthy. The real air cleaning heroes here are garden mum, spider plant, dracaena, ficus and sansevieria. This last one really became ‘in fashion’ again in Europe last year, besides the Chinese money plant.

Of course in these sandy urban environments we highly value some greenery ourselves and are able to provide you with stylish airplants that only need a little spray of water every week. Or, in case you are not the one with green thumbs; at least create that green impression by adding some of our green leaves or the wall papers from Creative Lab Amsterdam.

Check your materials

Last but not least; check the materials you use a lot at home. What fabrics make you feel good (we would advise a bit of velvet!)? To stay away from harmful substances that you accidentally breath, eat and get into your pores while being at home when you choose for the less natural ones: go for clean, natural materials (wool, cotton, glass, ceramics, etc.). Check your kitchen stuff, even the teflon layer in your pots and pans. We can provide you with all good things natural for your kitchen, check it online here

And last but not least: find balance, don’t follow all trends but find the ones that really suit you. In the end; this is supposed to be YOUR nest, right?
