Press Release - Urban Nest Introduces New Sustainable and Fairtrade Homeware Brand - Urban nest

Ingeborg Bruinewoud |

Dubai, UAE – Urban Nest is home to unique, sustainable and fairtrade interior brands brought with love to the Middle East.

The newest addition is no exception! Doing Goods is 100% handmade and sustainable homeware company based in the Netherlands and with the team of craftsmen in India. Their collection features fun-filled animal rugs, brass goods, textiles, and other lovable home accessories, inspired by the traditional techniques and artisanal crafts of India.

Urban Nest was originated with a distinct idea that every home deserves an original style that stands out from the ordinary. No mass collections, but limited quantities and smaller scale projects to keep its philosophy of curating unique items.

One of the goals of Urban Nest is to bring the international talent of designers into the Middle East.  Janaika Elders the founder of Urban Nest said: “Urban Nest strives for interior spaces to offer enriching and authentic experiences. I am always on the lookout for international interior design labels with inspiring stories to fit our philosophy.

The first time I laid my eyes on Doing Goods was at the Maison & Objets tradeshow in Paris in 2018 and I was instantly drawn to it. Their collection is unique, styles very well with all our other brands, like HKliving and fits with our "nest" concept of making your home cosy.”

The story of Doing Goods begins in 2010 with the love for collecting treasures by the founder Aanyoung Yeh during her world travels. She has discovered a family run homeware business in India and has connected with them deeply. Ever since then it has been her mission to share the artisanal craft of these communities by building a workshop with that family, from the ground up.

workshop in India

The headquarters in the Netherlands focuses on designing, supply chain and selling a variety of unique and quirky homewares worldwide. Whereas a team of craftspeople in India are the creators of the collection, working in a pleasant, comfortable and safe space. The Doing Goods workshop is thriving within its community, with fair wages, sufficient breaks and paid time off for the artisans. The company believes in improving people’s lives with honesty, authenticity and fair play.

All Doing Goods products are “wabi sabi”- imperfect things, with their own unique stories.

how tapis amis rugs are made

Tapis Amis Rugs collection is a quirky range of lovable loonies from the animal kingdom that will make you smile every time. Each rug is a result of an indulgence in traditional techniques, patience and love for the artisanal craft. All the lovable loonies are handmade in India from 100% wool and completely tufted by hand, colour by colour.

Brass collection is made from 100% recycled brass. Each piece is the result of an indulgence in traditional techniques, patience and love for the artisanal craft. All of the brass homewares are created according to ancient methods by craftsman in India.

Textiles collection is 100% handmade using traditional blockprint techniques that was passed on from generation to generation. The crafts people were taught by their parents, who were, in turn, taught by theirs – each generation working almost exactly as the one before.

Their throws are just perfect for the outdoor season in the UAE, they can be used for picnics, camping, beach or as tablecloths to host guests in the garden.
